Did you try to press F1 in the command editor window? If not, you should :) Here is what comes up, verbatim, when you do that:

Is MSI Setup Installed

This command checks whether a Windows Installer setup is presently installed on the system.

Product Code (Guid)

Enter the product code for the Windows Installer setup to check for in this field.

To obtain this code, you may open the MSI file in Orca (or another MSI database table editor), view the Property table, and copy the value of the ProductCode property.

Variable

This variable returns TRUE if the indicated setup is installed. Otherwise, the variable holds FALSE.

Notes

The NEEDSUPGRADE pre-defined variable automatically indicates whether a previous version of the running setup has been found on the system.
Existing installations may be removed using the (Un)Install MSI Setup command.

Hi!

Orca is a Microsoft Windows SDK tool. You can download Win SDK freely from MS site. I know it's huge enough for just a small EXE file. Maybe googling will help you find the program alone from SDK.

IMO, quiet useful tool for debugging purposes and a good weapon in the Installation-Developer arsenal.

Have a nice day!

If you are just checking for the presence of SQL Server 2000, you can check the registry for some value in the registry under the SQL 2000 key. I don't have that version running anywhere that I can easily access, but I think it had a key named something like:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Microsoft SQL Server\\80

That would probably be a safer check than the GUI as there were multiple editions of SQL Server and each one would have it's own GUID.

For the "Is MSI Installed" feature where does InstallAware check for this GUID? Logic would state it would HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall but it doesn't seem to be working correctly.

Also, just to confirm, the brackets are required yes?

Code: Select all

 [DEFINE REGION: Check Application Pre-Requisites]
 Comment: Check setup pre-requisites
 Set Variable PREREQ to FALSE
Get Installed State for {1ED545CA-F1DB-4493-9B46-9B926D9D3A59} into Variable PREREQ
 Set Variable PRELIST to
 if Variable NEEDSUPGRADE Equals TRUE
   Set Variable PREREQ to TRUE
Set Variable PRELIST to $PRELIST$$NEWLINE$Previous Version Uninstallation
 end
 <<Code>>

 [DEFINE REGION: Install Application Pre-Requisites]
 Comment: Install setup pre-requisites
 if Variable PREREQ Equals TRUE
Display Dialog: progressprereq, use as progress dialog (non-modal)
Install/Remove MSI Package 1ED545CA-F1DB-4493-9B46-9B926D9D3A59[REMOVE=ALL] (get result into variable REMOVEOLD)
   Apply Uninstall
 end
 Set Variable MAINTENANCE to FALSE
 <<Code>>

Why isn't this uninstalling the existing application? What am I doing wrong?

Code: Select all

 [DEFINE REGION: Install Application Pre-Requisites]
 Set Variable PREREQ to FALSE
Get Installed State for {1ED545CA-F1DB-4493-9B46-9B926D9D3A59} into Variable PREREQ
 if Variable PREREQ Equals TRUE
Display Dialog: progressprereq, use as progress dialog (non-modal)
Install/Remove MSI Package {1ED545CA-F1DB-4493-9B46-9B926D9D3A59}[REMOVE=ALL] (get result into variable REMOVEOLD)
   Apply Uninstall
 end
 <<Code>>

The package guid is the MSI product code as stored in the original MSI file. It may or may not correspond to the GUID in ARP.
