How to use Call DLL Function with DLL in Support Files?

I need to make a few custom calls to a DLL that is one of my Support files. When I add the Call DLL Function action, it prompts me for the path to the DLL. What do I put for a path? Is it possible to use this action with a Support file, or is that only for executables? Do I have to install my setup DLL with the other files instead of adding it as a Support file?

Hi Bill,
You should only need to place your DLL in the support files section of your project; however, if you want to refer to it in your application you will obviously need to include it as a file too!
There should be some samples included with the IA9 install that demonstrate the usage of the Call DLL Function.

Thanks. What I was looking for was the path to the Support files, and thanks to The Fine Manual, I see it's $SUPPORTDIR$. Now I'm trying to get the functions to run without success. One of my functions presents a UI to the user. When I make a Call DLL Function action and give it $SUPPORTDIR$\\MySetup.dll with function name _StartupServer@4, it doesn't run. ALso, a bunch of my DIFx driver installs fail with nothing in the log file to show why. WHen running with logging, are you capturing a verbose log or standard log? I don't see any DIFx messages in my install log.

Hi Bill,
What IDE did you build your DLL in? What is the interface definition?
Logging is carried out as standard, however, you can enable verbose logging the same as other MSI installs (using the standard Microsoft registry modification).

You can close this issue. Thanks for all your help. I've completed my evaluation.
