Configure IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 x64

Hi there,

I have a problem in configuring and adding features of IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 x64 using Installaware 8.

Let me first say, the installer works fine on Windows Server 2008 x32.

The installer should install the IIS feature ISAPI Extensions. I use the following line for this:
Run Program $WINDIR$\\system32\\pkgmgr.exe /iu:IIS-ISAPIExtensions (WAIT)
The execution fails, Returncode -1.

Pkgmgr.exe is a 64 bit program on Server 2008 x64. So it seems, that the installer can't "see" pkgmgr.exe. If I add a line to the installer, that opens a dos-box and list the directory-contents with dir, pkgmrg.exe is not there. If I open a dos-box by myself, I can see the file.

I tried the 64 Bit flag in the Application Requirements section of InstallAware with no change.

How can I install this package during installer-run?

Thanks in advance!
Maik

Hi Maik,

It sounds like your install is being virtualised by the OS.

Can you try placing your command within a batch file, and executing that from within your setup? Be sure to use the full path, or the system environment variables!

Hi Andy,

sorry, for my late reply (I did't get an email, that a reply was submitted) and thanks for your answer.

I already tried to execute the command within a dos-box without success. The command can't be executed, a message appears, that the file pkgmgr.exe is not available. I used the full path.

Any further ideas?

Have you tried the Run Program As plugin? This is more flexible ....

Run Program uses ShellExecute API, whereas Run Program As uses CreateProcess API.

I tried to use the Run Program As Plugin.
Still the same, the IIS feature is not installed.

Maybe it's impossible for the InstallAware Installer 32bit to run a program 64bit?

Well, I'm not exactly sure to be honest! I will have the investigate this, however, I know that you do need to set the 64-bit flag in the installer in order to write to the "normal" registry locations under 64-bit.

Can I get you to open a support ticket in our support system so that I can put this through to the dev team ?
