InstallAware

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction and give me an idea of how to proceed.

I was going to use patching to patch our product. However, one of our components is a file filter driver which is installed using a command line with rundll32. For some reason, when the driver and inf file changes, the patch doesn't execute the command and the new version of the driver is not installed.

So I decided I would try doing upgrades the way that InstallAware distributes new versions of their product. I simply rebuild the setup which causes it to remove the old one first. This works great.

However, it requires the user to go through the entire setup interview again. There is one panel which defines the setup type. I would like to remember what setup type they had installed on the machine and have the setup automatically select that setup type.

For instance, in the InstallAware setup you have the different version types to select from. Everytime I upgrade, I have to remember to select Studio which is the edition I'm licensed for. It would be nice for it to remember that I have studio installed and automatically select that for me. This is basically what I am trying to accomplish with my setup.

Any ideas how this can be done?

Hi Jeff,

This would be fairly painless to implement - simply write the type to the register during installation, and read it back at the start of the setup interview.
