IIS7 configuration of application pool for web service

I'm using Studio 9 and trying to create an installer for our Silverlight app and WCF web service. The target platform is Server 2003 and 2008. I've used the IIS plug-in to create a virtual folder. However, I don't see a way to specify that it convert it to a web application. I also don't have the ability to configure the app pool's properties like process model identity to Local System.

Can I do these via script or an easier way? I haven't tested II6 on 2003 yet but I believe I'd need a way to detect IIS7 before doing this.

I've tried setting the Application Protection to Low and Medium and specified a Application Pool but the pool doesn't get created.

Thanks,
Chris

This should work without issues; however, you need the IIS 6 Metabase compatibility mode installed too -- can you check that you have this.

Yes, it is installed. Besides creating the app pool, do I have the ability to control it's properties via script?

Hi Chris,

You should find everything you need there. If there is anything specific that is missing, please let me know and I will log it as a wish list item.

Okay, so my original problem was that I was just creating a virtual folder and:
- Couldn't find a way in script or the UI to convert it to a 'web application'
- Couldn't get it to create a pool

These issues still exist. However, I looked at your IIS sample and decided to give the user the ability to select the Default Web Site or create their own. This seems to have addressed the two issues above. They are fixed although I'm not sure the first scenario isn't a bug.

My current problem is the uninstall doesn't cleanup the app pool that gets created. Not a huge deal but I would prefer to be able to remove it. Also, I still don't see a way to configure the app pool's process model identity (under Advanced Settings in IIS 7). It defaults to Local System and I'd like to be able to change it.

Hi Chris,

I will log the following items onto our wish list (which are currently not possible in script):

- Remove IIS Application Pool
- Create II Application Pool

I'm not sure if is possible to manipulate the identity through the IIS 6 metabase compatibility, but I will investigate this and see what I can find.

Is there any update on this?

Specifically I want to be able to set the identity of the app pool, but there doesn't appear to be any mechanism in the script commands.

I know I can easily do this in .Net code using the Microsoft.Web.Admininstration namespace (i'm only targetting II7 / 7.5), but it would be great to be able to do this directly in the InstallAware script
