When installing, I often get the following message: "The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\wshom.ocx because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly"

(My test bed consists of nothing under Windows XP)

What causes this error? and how can I get around it?

This sounds like an error being thrown by a merge module -- can you give me some information about what you are including in the script.

A log file might be a good start too.
