Hi, I have some pre requirements that like .NET 3.5 SP1 and Sql Server 2008 needs to be intalled for my program to be installed, but I do not wanna bake in the sql server package and .net 3.5 sp1.

I have worked with an another install software before there there were possible to use Bootstrapping installers. In other words the installer were going out on the internet and fetched the components that were needed for example for .net 3.5 sp1 there were only one file of 0.5 Mb that downloaded .net 3.5 sp1 and installed it.

Is it possible in installaware to? for both .net 3.5 sp1 and sql server 2008 express?

And I wonder why I need to have IE 6.0 in my intstallation package to install .net 3.5 sp1

Not as such ... however, InstallAware can build any pre-req as a web media block, which you can host on your servers and will only be downloaded to clients as and when required -- if they have the pre-req already present, it will not be downloaded saving you both bandwidth!

Interesting, where can I found tutorials about Media Block's, maybe someone already has done this before so I can download and have a look.

It sounds just like the solution I'm out for. It feels more secure when my company can host it.

Seems like all I need to do is to use Web Deploy and place the web media blocks at the right web address? :D

How will it go if there already are an SQL server 2008 express installed but I want to install another one but with an another instance name?

Thats correct - simple set the URL and away you go :)

As for instance name, check the two scripts that get included in the MSI Code when you add a pre-req -- you will notice there is one for detecting the pre-req, and one for carrying out the install.

For SQL, check the parameters in the install script, and you will find the instance name.
