Install scenario - how to do

Hi,

In this moment we are using InstallAware Studio 8 for creating msi packages for our application. This msi packages are installed to client computers via GPO. We have main installation and updates both in msi via GPO. However we would like to implement another install scenario.

Main install (full aplication) should be installed via GPO as it was till now. However, updates should be installed by application itself. That means that when I 'start application' first it should be checked somewhere in network if there is an update for this application. If it is update should start automatically only informing user "Please wait update in progress" (maybe with some progress bar). When update finished its work application should be started. We thought about creating a small exe which will first check the updates and if needed do the update and then start main application. If there is no updates it will just start the application.

So, my question is. Is it possible to create such and updating scenario using InstallAware 8 and if so in which way should we do this. I mean whit which options.

Thanks in advance
Kristijan

Great idea! Unfortunatly this support is not part of our default update script, however, it SHOULD be possible to implement.

However, I would strongly suggest reviewing the updates.mia file and start experimenting with modifications to it and custom GUI to provide a "please wait" style interface.
Note that you will probably need to add a command line parameter to your update installers to display a specific set of gui panels and execute specific update logic ...
