InstallAware

This is frustrating as hell so hopefully someone has run into this before

I have an application that i build as version 0.8.71.00

i then create an installaware full installer using the same version number

I make a couple changes and create a new installer under product version number 0.8.72.00

I create a patch which points to the first version (0.8.71.00), then i upload the patch to our server.

I make a few more changes and then create an installer of version 0.8.73.00.

I create a patch which points to the first two full installers and upload this patch to the servers

I then create two update packs. The first one updates 0.8.71.00 to 0.8.72.00. The second updates 0.8.72.00 to 0.8.73.00. I then upload the updates.ini file to the server

I install the first package and then call the update server using manual link off start menu. It sees the first update pack, we go through the process and it updates fine. I am now at 0.8.72.00.

The problem is now when i call the update again it finds nothing. If i run the full installer for 0.8.72.00 and run update it finds it correctly and updates me to 0.8.73.00 as it should.

It only fails to patch against a patched install.

Am i missing something or doing something incorrectly?

Hmmm .... It sounds like something is wrong in your updates.ini.

Have you checked all the references?

I have tried this a dozen times now. Updates.ini looks fine to me.

What do you mean by 'references'?

I just created two packages, and a patch. Uploaded the patch to the web server along with the updates.ini created when i made the update packs etc.

Ran update service and all ran fine, instyalled patch with no problem. Ran update service again and it should come back and say "No Updates Found" but nothing is shown to the user.

Is there something wrong with using update packs and patches for web updates?

I have tried using the versioning 0.8.77.01 ... 0.8.77.02 etc
also 0.8.77 ... 0.8.78 etc

Is there a standard for InstallAware? What does the update look to? 3 levels or 4?
