Unable to compile MSI Action set registry entry

My installer writes a couple of value into the registry. This has been working fine, but now all of a sudden the script no longer compiles.
I get the message ' Unable to compile MSI Action set registry entry'. So I started looking at the Write Registry entries.

Code: Select all

Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows
Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings\\
Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings\\Zones
Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings\\Zones\\2
Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings\\Zones\\3
and more....
I disabled all HKUD lines and the script compiles again.
I can enable

Code: Select all

Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\
and it compiles
if I also enable

Code: Select all

Write Registry Key HKUD\\Software\\Microsoft\\
it doesn't compile.

What is going on? Did I change (perhaps) a project setting? It only happens when dealing with HKUD. I can write to any other hive.

Remember up till 10 minutes agom nothing was going on. I've had this problem earlier today. I exited IA9 and didn't save the project files, after reopening them it all worked.
Now, I can go back to source control and retrieve the earlier verion, but I'll lose all my hard work

I retrieved the old source and it compiles again!

I've compared (using .mia.txt) the changes and the only relevant changes is the usage of $SERVERNAME$ inside the Write Registry Key.

Maybe it's relevant maybe it's not!

I'm using this $SERVERNAME$ in both HKUD and HKCU. Only the HKUD seems to cause problems.
How can I make sure that IA is recompiling everything (the equivelant of Rebuild Solution in Visual Studio)?

Hitting build should recompile everything. In general, you want to use the build button, and very rarely the compile button (except to check for syntactical correctness).

Thank you for the answer on my last question. I do remain curious as to what happened (twice) yesterday.
Why can (under unknown circumstances) the script stop compiling when writing HKUD. What if it happens again?

I still have copies of the mpr/mia files of the failing project, should I sent these and/or do you need more?
