I am creating a pre-req install program (a program that installs third party software pieces necessary for our software to operate) and when it is going through this process the forms will disappear from the screen for a period of two to three minutes before reappearing and proceeding.

The disappearance will be very confusing to end users who will install the application.

Can somebody please shed some light on how to keep these forms from disappearing and if this is not possible, can i have a form pop up asking the user to "please wait while....etc."?

I suspect one of your runtimes (possibly Visual C++) is scanning the HD for files and this is slowing things down. Just create and display your own form before the runtime checking block starts executing, this would at least let end-users know something is going on (and with a progress text field, you would even be able to expose what folder is being currently read, etc.)
