Possible Bug: .NET Framework 2 SP2 as Prereq on WinXP 64

Hi,

we have a huge problem with the installation of our last release. Our software needs Microsofts .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 as a prereq and we defined this in our setup. The detection works on Windows Vista 32/64, Windows 7 32/64 and Windows XP 32.

It doesn't work on Windows XP 64bit. The installer tries to install .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 x86 and fails as the setup does not work for 64bit maschines. When the user installs the Framework manually, it is not detected by the installer.

This is a huge problem as our customers are not able to install our software on these systems.

Is there a workaround (a command line switch) to suppress the PREREQ-Check and to force an installation?

There's an easy way to find out what's going on. Run your script under the debugger and see what is going wrong on a XP 64 bit VM. Compare with one of the other 64 bit platforms under the debugger to nail the difference in behavior. This in itself will most likely solve your issue, but -

Calling setup.exe /s PREREQ=FALSE should do the trick for prereq bypass - provided you haven't customized your scripts.

Thank you very much for your reply, Michael.

I've found the PREREQ=FALSE-Trick out by myself :) ... We solved the Problem for this customer with the installation of the right version of .NET Framework 2.0 SP 2 x64.

One problem still remains. I switched on the prerequisite section .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 (x64) to add the ability of later installations to support x64 Systems. When I build a setup with this configuration trying to install it on a x86 system the installation failed with a message like "This program only runs under 64-bit environment".

Do I have to handle this on my own in the Setup script?

You can just customize the include scripts that were added to your project as part of the new runtime to handle this case in any way you see fit.
