Strange OVERRIDECACHE behavior

I tried Overriding the value of this variable in order to change the installer cache location but ran into the following behavior:
After I update the OVERRIDECACHE variable early in my setup script - before any features have been defined, I am noticing that the "Space Required:" value now reads 0 bytes.
Is this a bug? or am I doing something incorrectly?
