How to manage UAC with InstallAware 7 Silent install

We have a silent install done with InstallAware 7 R2 - and we have to run this on OVER 1,000 machines and it MUST be run silently. We found it works great on any Windows XP machine, but on Vista and Win7 machines that damn UAC prompt continues to drive us crazy, and stir up a revolt in our user community.

I have researched the InstallAware Tech Support AND the web for an answer as to how to manage and supress these UAC prompts. Seems like every response says "Go into this machine and..." HELLO?!?!?! I cant run around the world to every machine in this corporation and start setting particulars - I would be retired, and dead before I could get all that done!!!

Is there any way to manage this UAC prompt through InstallAware WITHOUT having to go to every machine. Yes, I know about Certificates but there must be another way. My boss is blowing his top that we paid a fortune for InstallAware because it was recommended to be the "best", and now everytime we go to do something with it its just costing us more money either through upgrades or certificates.

This is an urgent matter - I could really use some advice.

InstallAware is the best - unfortunately even the best are confined by the platform they're running on.

Microsoft has built UAC specifically to make it difficult for people to run software that requires admin privileges (such as a setup). I am afraid there is no way to work around it - if there were, we'd be doing it for you.

You may consider looking into Group Policy deployment if you want to push your setups, unattended, to thousands of computers on a network. Or you could even change Group Policy settings on the computers where the UAC prompt is coming up.

Other than disabling UAC manually on affected systems or approving the prompt, there's nothing any setup could ever do for you on the Windows platform. Same goes for certificates, by the way - they are required regardless of which setup vendor you choose. At least with InstallAware, you get to author your setup itself quickly and painlessly.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply - yeah, I know its not InstallAware's "fault" and though the Group Policy route does seem the best overall (short of a lot of running around) I was hoping for some sort of miracle. I will let the "power-that-be" know what we're up against and then let them decide how this is going to be handled.

Thanks again for your reply!
