SQL Server Connection Issue

I have a single installer, created using IA9 (Build Moya.sp1.070409), for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows. I used the plugin for detecting instances of MS SQL Server but it fails with 64-bit Windows 7. No instances of SQL Server are found and I have about 6 of them on various machines. With previous version of this script I've encountered numerous times when the detection does not pick up the instance I'm interested in but typing in the name works. But with 64-bit Windows 7 this also fails.

Using the same installer with 32-bit Windows 7, XP, and 2003 Server, and 2008 Server all successfully detect and/or allow typing in an instance name. All my testing environments are virtual machines and are identical except for OS.

Is there possibly an issue with the plugin or something kwirky with 64-bit Windows 7?

In the folder "...\InstallAware 9 R2\Plug-Ins\Detect MS SQL Instances" (or wherever the plugin is located if it didn't come packaged with IA), what is the modified date for mSQLInstIDE.dll?

I just ran one test on Win7 (Ultimate) (x64) and it picked up the one instance that was installed...

What is the return value you get? Just blank or $variable$? If you see $variable$ in the result, then the variable needs to be set ahead of time.

Off hand, it sounds like your plugin could be out of date...

Upgrading to R2 solved the issue. FYI the date of that dll is 7/9/2010.
