Patching in Version 10

I am using version 10 and have been trying to create a patch for one of our products and could not get it to work, so I tried the same thing in a simple setup project and got the same problem
The steps were the following:
1. Create a .net hello world app that has a button and when i click it, it says 'hello world version 1.0' that is read from a class in another assembly as part of my solution. and build
2. The binaries output from this solution are test.exe and platform.dll
3. Create a installaware project using the wizard and simply set the basic properties up, add files to targetdir as a wildcard to the output folder of the .net solution plus some excludes SOURCE: 'C:\Development\SRVTFS\Test2010\Trunk\TestApplication\TestApplication\bin\Debug\*.*' EXCLUDE: '*.xml;*.config;*.pdb;*.vshost.exe'
4. Install says version 1.0
5. Do a batch build for all three setup build types
6. Copy setup directory to version 1 folder
7. Change .net platform assembly so it returns now "hello world version 1.0 patched"
8. build it
9. add the web setup from previous setup build into patches and build
10. I get a patch created in the patches folder
11. Install Original version (all ok i get "hello world version 1.0" from app)
12. Install patch executable (asks to uninstall old version then shows setup again which appears to do something but actually does nothing) now nothing installed and I can run the patch over again and it won't install anything.
I have tried changing versions in the setup, in the .net assemblies, using the cd/dvd install and the web one. no matter what i do i can't seem to make it work.
Points that might help:
I thought it wasn't supposed to show the uninstall option and just patch the original.
Any help would be appreciated. I even tried following to the letter the patch doc from your site and it does not seem to work either.
I run in a 64 bit environment if that helps. and i could also give you the simple project zipped up if you need.
Thanks in advance
