AV in version.dll

Some of our customers get the following error message which causes them not to be able to
continue with the installation.

The code of Line Numer 9 in SetStartParams is

~InstallAware Clipboard Data~
~Get System Settings~
~{9D97C014-77AC-491F-8E5F-DE3A40CC322F}~
~LANGUAGETEXT~
~34~

It happens at the very beginning of a setup that was created using IA 9 and has been online
unchanged for about 6 months. Only last week we had two encounters of this error, one on
an XP 32bit system, the other on a Win 7 64bit system.

What could be the reason?

Dear pfennig,

Have you been able to reproduce this in house? Are there any special locales / MUI installed on the problematic machines?

No, we haven't been able to reproduce the problem in house. This makes it so difficult to
find the reason.
A remote support session with one of the affected customers also didn't bring any insights.
His version.dll is unaltered and,as far as we could see, he doesn't run anything unusual.

Dear pfennig,

It is hard for me to to be able to pin point the problem - this could be caused by many different conditions that exist.
I would guess that its a configuration problem with the machine, but again, without any further information, it is hard for me to say.

Unfortunately, we don't really have much more to go with, and were hoping someone already
encountered the same problem and found the reason, so that we could learn what else to
look for.

Thank you, anyway :)

We'll get another opportunity for a remote session with the customer.
What do you suggest that we look for?

Dear pfennig,

Perhaps try to learn more about the configuration on the target system and then try to reproduce this on a similar machine in-house.

Hi,

We've got exactly the same problem with some of our customers.
They all have Windows Seven 32 bits.
The access vilotation in our script is on the Get System settings Language (Numeric)
Here is the copy of our code :
Get System Setting Language (Numeric) into OS_PAYS
if Variable OS_PAYS Equals 1036
Set Variable LANGAGE to French
Set Variable TITLE to #TITRE#
Set Variable PRODUCTNAME to #TITRE_DLG#
Set Variable Dialog_Install to Installation de
end
if Variable OS_PAYS Equals 1043
Set Variable LANGAGE to Dutch
Set Variable TITLE to #TITRE_NL#
Set Variable PRODUCTNAME to #TITRE_DLG_NL#
Set Variable Dialog_Install to Installatie
end

Our customers can't install our products, and, we can't reproduce the same issue on our tests machines... do you have any ideas ?
thanks
AH-NP

Hi,

I am unable to reproduce this on a 32 Bit Windows 7 either.

Which language do they have installed? Are they using an RTM version of Windows?

Hi,

I'm not able to reproduce it to...
This is French OS, we tried to re-initialize local settings to FR FR but the problem still occurs...

Is there a workaround to force my variable OS_PAYS to 1036 (I tried with command line but this does not seem to work...)

Thanks

AH-NP

Hey.

Do you mean is there a way to force this variable to receive a value in runtimes AFTER you compiled the setup?

Unfortunately no.. You can set its initial value but that will get overridden by the Get System Settings command..
