Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (32-bit) - Extraction Failure
Posted: Thu Jun 09, 2011 11:03 am
I just upgraded from InstallAware 9R2 to InstallAware 11 (I did purchase 10, just never got around to installing it.)
There seems to be a problem with the new "Microsoft .NET Framework 4" 7zip package - or at least the extraction of the package when installing on a Windows XP Professional SP3 (32-bit) Operating System.
The web package is downloaded/discovered but the extraction fails at around 95% (progress bar is filled all the way - so guessing at the percentage.)
When I check the extraction folder ("..\Temp\myah\microsoft .net framework 4\mFileBagIDE.dll\bag\"), it looks like all the localization folders (1025 - 3082) are empty and missing the localized files.
I've performed several tests on 2 different Windows XP Pro SP3 machines (one of which is a completely clean virtual machine - vmWare, not that its relevant.)
The failure happens on both machines.
I also tried installing on Windows Vista 32-bit and it worked fine (so it looks like it's an XP OS-related issue.)
I also have a 64-bit version which also works fine on Vista and Windows 7 64-bit.
I created a new install using the .NET Setup template and included only "Microsoft .NET Framework Client 4" and "Microsoft .NET Framework 4" (and Windows Installer 3.1)
The "Microsoft .NET Framework Client 4" installs fine, "Microsoft .NET Framework 4" fails to extract properly.
I took the 7Zip file and manually extracted it, all the files are present, so it seems to be a problem with the extraction process and not the 7Zip file itself.
Prior to the upgrade I was using the single "Microsoft .NET Framework 4" package with IA 9R2 without any issues.
Any help appreciated; if I can't resolve this I will have to revert back to the old web package, but I'd prefer to use "out-of-the-box" runtimes.
Regards,
- Aaron.
