Windows Version Hierarchy

Hi,

The only post I've seen about this topic is vague, and moreover is very old. Therefore here's my observation:

Using the Check "Get System Setting" with "Windows Server 2008" causes the installer to reject the install on a Windows 7 machine.

But in the dropdown list, it comes in this order:

- Windows Server 2008
- Windows 7
- Windows Server 2008 R2

Following this logic, choosing "Windows Server 2008" should be the correct option to accept them all 3, should it not?

Otherwise, how can I make this happen?

Thanks!
Mathieu

Dear Mathieu,

Since 7, 2008 and 2008 R2 are different releases of Windows (even though they are generally equivalent as far as Microsoft is concerned), you will have to check for all three versions like so:

If Windows7
//install
Else
If Windows2008
//install
Else
if Windows2008R2
//install
Else
//show an incompatible OS error message
End
End
End

Thanks a lot for the clarification. It did appear as if this check would also accept later versions.

As a side note, don't you have any OR statement in your scripting engine? Why is that so?

Thanks!
Mathieu

Dear Mathieu,

We don't, however any OR hierarchy can be achieved by nesting If blocks..

I'm aware of that :) I just prefer the flexibility of using either the OR option, or the nested IFs option. For some simple checks I find it silly to use nested IFs.

Thanks,
Mat

Hey,

We actually have a command called Eval - this command evaluates complex logical expressions and puts the result in a variable.

Thanks!
