vmware install problem

With version 11, I'm having an issue with the inital product install. It just shows a blank for the destination folder and a large negative number for the remaining disk space. If I put in the correct install folder, the install works ok.

On an upgrade install, after the uninstall, it shows the correct destination folder and disk space. I don't have a way to know if the same problem is happening during an initial install on a "real" machine, as I don't have one that won't be an upgrade.

I didn't have this issue with 10, so is there something I need to change to fix this?

Dear SteveRing,

Please create an empty project from the Basic Setup template. Build and run that installer on your VM and let me know if you are experiencing the same behavior.

Thanks!

This doesn't happen with a blank project.

Could you please describe the problematic project? What does it do? Are you using any plugins?

It's an installer that's been working for a number of years now. It was working until this upgrade, but has worked fine since 7 or 8. It installs .net and various c++ runtimes, but doesn't use any plugins. It installs a .net gui program, some gac assemblies and then runs a msm file and a driver installer.

The problem was checking for an empty string returned from read register. I don't know why the check was incorrect, but I changed it to a different evaluation and now things work
