Horrible time with dx9c runtime

I consider myself quite an intelligent chap, but I must admit I'm really struggling to get DX9c into the 'Application Runtimes' box. I've searched this forum and Google, and while there are some posts on the subject, I could find nothing that said "Right - do this, then that."
I've read the whitepaper, I've looked at the DX9
b files in the Runtimes folder, but they look like this:
Code: Select all
Set Variable
DirectX Runtime
If
Set Variable
Set Variable
End

etc.
...and I haven't got a clue!
I'm new to scripting with IA, and I would
really appreciate any help.

Hi,
Have you read this?
http://www.installaware.com/installawar ... s_view.pdf
Also, what exactly is the problem?

Did you manage to get this working?
I find myself needing to add DX9c to my setup now.
I was quite surprised to find my IA 9R2 SP3 only had inbuilt support for DX9b

The scripts seem to offload check/install duties to a plugin - so I'm not sure how easy the existing mechanism is to update.
I've searched the plug-ins/runtimes forums. Am I missing something?
Is there a link to download the laterm DX9c runtime or do I have to roll my own?
Also, does anyone know if the new IA12 version supports DX9c?

Well, I ended up ditching the prereq thing and added a script to check for DX in the registry. Seems to work, although I've not tested it under every eventuality yet, e.g. if DX is not installed at all:
Code: Select all
Comment: Check DX version
if Variable REMOVE Equals FALSE
if Variable CMDLINE not Contains -SKIPDX
Read Registry Key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\Version into JAM_CHECKDX
if Variable JAM_CHECKDX not Greater Than (Version) 4.09.00.0903
MessageBox: $TITLE$ - DirectX 9.0c required, You need an up-to-date version of DirectX (9.0c) to use $TITLE$.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$DirectX is part of your Windows operating system.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$Would you like to install the DirectX update from Microsoft now? (Internet connection required).
if Variable JAM_DXQUESTIONRESULT Equals NO
MessageBox: $TITLE$ - DirectX 9.0c required, Installation cannot continue.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$For more information, please see the product documentation.
Terminate Installation
end
Run Program $SUPPORTDIR$\dxwebsetup.exe (WAIT)
Read Registry Key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\Version into JAM_CHECKDX
if Variable JAM_CHECKDX not Greater Than (Version) 4.09.00.0903
MessageBox: $TITLE$ - DirectX 9.0c required, Installation cannot continue.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$For more information, please see the product documentation.
Terminate Installation
end
end
end
end
Hope this helps!

Thanks, interestingly for me the version check wasn't sufficient.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 have 9.0c built in - which reports as 4.09.00.0904 - but it doesn't have the D3D routines I need.
Fortunately, it was fairly straight forward to repackage the DX9 setup for IA...
I've written my own DX9c check and setup runtime scripts which can be dropped into IA's prerequisites sections and work in the usual manager.
I check the presence and version of D3DX9_43.dll (together with DX10 and 11 DLLs for good measure!).
The only bit I couldn't work out was how to make this a plugin/runtime built into IA but I guess thats not relevant.
I'm going to publish the script in the runtimes forum here in case its of use to anyone else.
It allows the DX components to be bundled as webmedia and installed along with the other pre-reqs.
Thanks once again for your post.
