Prerequisite Software

Hi,

We sell our own product that customers install with InstallAware 10.10. This product is our 'Standard Edition'. We are now writing a second installer that upgrades the 'Standard Edition' to 'Pro Edition'. The mechanism to achieve this is to add some plugins to the existing installed 'Standard Edition'. Due to customer constraints around product validation it is critical that we don't replace the whole 'Standard Edition' product.

In our installer that will perform the upgrade from Standard to Pro we want to ensure,
1. Standard Edition is already installed
2. We know the location where Standard Edition is installed (this may vary)
3. We delete the old Standard Edition plugins such that they can be restored should the customer uninstall our Pro edition

Some pointers on where to start looking for the best way to do these things would be brilliant. Many thanks.

Hi,

What you might want to consider doing is creating a separate, pro installer, and having it install the additional plugins on top of the original installation. Would that work for you?

Hi Aviv,

That is exactly what we are doing. The questions I posted are a request for some specific guidance on how to do this.

Thanks,
Keith

What you can do is have the pro version be a newer version of your product, that upon installation installs the pro version and remove the lesser version.
Would that work?

No, sorry, that will not work,

How about if it just installs the pro version without removing the older one?
