I got problem if I try to install SQL 2008 Express R2 Runtime Setup through the prereq and the uac is active the installation fails.
I also tried the command "run programm under uac" and it still didn't work. I also tried standard scripts and that didn't help neither.
Does anybody know how I can solve this problem? I really would appreciate any help!

Hi,
Which UAC elevation level is your project set to?

Thank you. Are you able to test this on other machines? Does this always reproduce?

We have tested on all Windows 7 Products, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate x86 or x64 Machines.
The SQL 2008 Express R2 Runtime is always failed when the UAC is enabled.
The Installation works only when i have turned off the UAC from Windows.

Hi,
if you use a new standard project with SQL 2008 express R2 runtime it won't install with active UAC.
When SQL 2008 express R2 runtime setup is called the installation fails with a errormessage directly.Setup process doesn't start.
When the UAC is turned off the installation runs without problems.
You find our script in the attachment.

We're having the exact same problem with trying to install SQL 2008 Express R2. We really need a solution to this ASAP. Thanks.

Hi,
Are you able to manually install SQL 2008 Express R2 on those machines with UAC on?

Yes, installing manually did work with UAC on. I'm not convinced the problem is actually an UAC issue. With UAC turned off, our setup program still fails to install SQL 2008 R2, displaying the 'install manually' error message.
Thanks.

Hi,
Are you testing with manually running the runtime from the InstallAware 2012\runtimes\sql2008_expressbin folder? That is the executable that IA tries to install, and it should also fail if IA fails to install it.

We used the SQL Express 2008 R2 x86 setup file provided by Microsoft to do the manual install.
More information. Our application is a 32 bit app, so we were trying to install it using the x86 SQL 2008 runtime. If we use the x64 runtime the setup runs successfully. It appears that if both the x86 and 64 bit SQL runtimes are included, or if only the x86 runtime is included, then the setup fails. We don't really want to limit our application to 64 bit machines, so being able to install the x86 version is desirable. Thanks.

Please try using the setup provided with IA - how does it fail? You might get a more informative messagebox when running the installer manually.

Using the files from sqlexpress2008r2bin_x86.7zip the setup fails with the message that the setup program can only be run on 32-bit systems. So it appears that InstallAware's x86 runtime will not work on 64-bit systems. This is a bit surprising as the x86 setup program provided by Microsoft does work on x64 systems.

Clarification - Microsoft does provide a 32 bit only runtime, as well as a 32 bit
runtime which can also be installed on 64 bit systems. We chose to supply
the 32 bit only runtime.
