Evaluating - Help with a Dialog Box

I'm evaluating InstallAware after using the most basic of package builders for years that is not being updated for new OSs. We build internal fixit packages, lots of registry changes, usually deployed silent. My "test" package requires user input, only one dialog.

I need to create a dialog that requests a "login name." The entered information is passed to a variable ASK1. I've had NO success using the existing dialogs, customizing them, registering them in my project.

I did try a "message box" and set the "OK" button to $ASK1$. The "OK" was passed to my registry entry as the login name. No luck with a modified dialog.

Can anyone provide some basic info on how I can customize one of the dialogs to do this?

Having been to classes on another product our company tried that left our entire group clueless, I am unwilling to recommend another product to try unless I can get a typical package built by my own wits.

Dear User,

if I have not missed anything,
- are you searching for an example for a dialog that have a control that passes the entered value to variable?

If true, many dialogs from those available in InstallAware sample projects, already does this. Such User info dialogs.
Probably If a have a look at the Sample project "Serial Validator", there is the "RegistrationWithSerial" dialog that cover more aspects about this.

If I have missed your point, please try to be more specific.

Regards

Francesco,

I only had a few minutes to work with IA today, but came across the Dialog Designer and it's "Edit" box, which seems to be what I was looking for. Just saw your post and checked the "Registrationwithserial" dialog and see that it appears to be using boxes with the same properties.

Thanks so much for your help!
