Project won't build

Hi,
I have come across another problem when trying to build my project, I also get the same when creating a new project with default settings. This error is:
Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware Studio 5\\interop\\ulteriormiastub.exe". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

When I tried to access the file myself, I got the same message. So, I rebooted and the machine, tried to rebuild, same problem. Any ideas? I keep running into problems, are there any known issues with Windows XP SP2? I recently downloaded the trial software from the site about a week ago, which has since been updated to the full version with a license key so I'm pretty sure I have the latest version.

Cheers

OK, this might be related to the other issue you are having. See if something went wrong with your access permissions on your file, its locked, or some other problem. That is a temporary file that is created and updated during builds. See if its locked by a program, try to delete it and rebuild, and let us know what comes out of it.

I checked the permissions on that file and I have full control on that file. So I deleted the file (had to close the installer software to do this) and then rebuilt the project, but still the same problem. Is it worth reinstalling the software? And if I do, will there be any issues with the license key as I have already used it?
Thanks

Btw, I just uninstalled and then installed the software again, but am still unable to successfully build any project.

A developer experienced this in-house, but it was caused by him editing the file dependent.exe and removing some of the required version fields from the dependent.exe file.

I can guess therefore, that you either did the same (which is unlikely), or you are trying to write some invalid version/product information to the file. Does that help?

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem. But it only happens here when I specify a compiler variable when calling miabuild.

Works:

Code: Select all

miabuild myproject.mpr /r
Doesn't work:

Code: Select all

miabuild myproject.mpr /r COMPVAR1=TEST
The CompilerVar adds a file, some registry entries and shortcuts. Apart from that nothing changes.

This problem suddenly seemed to come up, I'm not conscious of any change that could have triggered it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

no access to 'ulteriormiastub.exe, locked by another process

Created Windows Installer database
Error during build: Cannot open file "D:\\Programme\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 6.6\\interop\\ulteriormiastub.exe". Der Prozess kann nicht auf die Datei zugreifen, da sie von einem anderen Prozess verwendet wird

I have the same problem which has been reported above! Even miabuild myproject.mpr /r does not work. Gives the same error message. I deleted the file 'ulteriormiastub.exe', started again the build, same problem. Rebooted the machine, same problem. Did somebody find out a solution? Any ideas???

Ok, my solution is to install IA anew. Now it works fine!

I've ran into this problem when a build is canceled or not completed for one reason or the other. Especially true if the build appears to freeze, you terminate the process or close the program with the terminate button during build.

The only work around I have found is to just reboot and then build the project again.

Issue solved!! For me at least....

I was getting this error after Windows forced an update... Spent the entire day reading this forum and cursing at InstallAware.

Solution: right click on the root folder that the installer script and files is in and UNCHECK read-only... If *any* files in the heirarchy are read-only, this will be not checked, but "squared"... Make sure it's unchecked, then APPLY THE SETTING TO SUBFOLDERS AND THEIR CONTENTS.

Bam. Worked like a charm.

This happened because when Windows forced a restart, InstallAware was running and had the files open.

IA Developers : Please don't leave file handles open. Open the files, Read the contents, Close them up.

Cheers!
Randy

*STILL* a wild fanatical fan of InstallAware!!

...another trick...

This was more of a problem with v7, haven't run into as much in v8, but if a build failed or was canceled, cleaning the temp folder would get you back up and going.

I usually do that anyway before rebuilding an existing project because IA creates a ton of temp files during the build process and this insures a clean build.

Wow, that sounds pretty scary...how come a Windows Update set your files to read-only?

If there's a pattern here or something we can do to fix an InstallAware bug, let us know!
