\"Removing Applications\"

Using InstallAWARE studio Version 5.0 (Build ponderosa_rtm.051213).

While the installer is installing the components it at one point shows the progress text of "Removing Applications".

That text freaked out our customers and we'd like to change it. I looked through our script and the global strings and couldn't find any reference to it.

Where is this text coming from? How can I change it?

Related to that, it's not really "removing applications", right? What is it doing? Some text that is less generic would be better..

I believe you will find that that is standard text returned from the Windows Installer Service.

I also did not want our customers to see this text. So I hid it. I added an object rule for the ProgressText control on the Progress dialog to replace that text with somethin innocuous:

IF (ProgressText.Caption = Removing applications) THEN ProgressText.Caption := Finishing up;

It's not perfect; it does flicker a bit and if you're in the know you'll realize that it's displaying "Removing applications" for a brief moment before changing it to "Finishing up," but it's better than it was.

How exactly did you do this?

I'm not sure how you add an Object rule. Could you please explain?

Thanks.

Hi Steve,

that's really simple.
- Open the progress dialog in the dialog designer.
- Doubleclick on the ProgressText
- switch to the Object Rules tab
- Add the rule as described in the post.

I've found that since upgrading to IA9, it no longer tries to print "Removing Applications."

That is correct. A lot of customers were freaking out about this final Windows Installer stage - even though no applications were actually being removed - so as a customer centric organization, we figured it best to kill that stage altogether.
