Running the program after install - OS differences

I am working on an installer on the trial version of InstallAware. The company I work for is thinking about using your software to make their installer.
I have successfully made an installer that installs our software on Windows 7, Vista sp1, and XP sp3. We want our program to run after the installer finishes. This works fine in Windows 7, but doesn't work in XP or Vista. I have checked in the TaskManager on each of these operating systems to see if the program is trying to run, and it appears that it is not. Do you have any insight into why this works in Windows 7, but not the other 2 OS I have tested it on? How would I fix this issue?
This is the first time I have made an installer, so please remember that in your reply! Thank you for any help!

Dear User,
I don't think the issue it is caused by InstallAware but I suspect that your application requires very probably, some other packages to run on these OSs where is failing.
I can only suggest you to verify which component (as for example: Runtimes) is required by your software to work properly.
Of course you should know it and very probably you will be able to solve your issue.
Let me know if you need any further help.
Regards

Thank you for your quick reply! It requires .NET 4.0, and I even have a catch that won't allow the installer to continue if .NET 4.0 is not installed. This catch works fine in all the operating systems I mentioned.
The program, after it is installed, runs in all the OS. However, the problem is that on the final dialog box of the installer, where I have it set up to run the program, it does in Windows 7, but not in XP or Vista.

Dear user,
with your main project script you should have:
Code: Select all
if Variable RUNAPP Equals TRUE
if Variable REMOVE Equals FALSE
if Variable SUCCESS Equals COMPLETE
Comment: TO-DO: Insert command that starts your application here
Run Program $TARGETDIR$\application.exe
end
end
end
The above code generally it is placed at very end of your script. As you can see it executes a Run command to a supposed exe at the of installation.
First you should verify with the OSs where this fails to start, if your application it is correctly installed to target folder.
This path it is resolved by TARGETDIR variable and it is used by your setup to phisically copy the files during execution.
So, first check if your exe file it is correctly placed to targetdir, then verify the above command in your script to check if there is any error with your RUN PROGRAM command.
You can also use the debug feature available in InstallAware to verify your script code during execution or just place a MessageBox command to verify your variable value. To display variables value with MessageBoxes, use these between dollar signs in the form $MYVAR$.
Let me know.
