Strange problem with installations stopping.

Our sales people have reported some strange issues with some of our installations simply stopping, without installing the program or reporting any error messages. This happens some time after the "Validating System requirements" dialog is shown. Once this occurs on a computer, the only thing they know of that fixes it is to delete all of the MIA*.tmp files from the user's temp folder, and then remove any GUID named folders from the ProgramData folder. Since these folders exist, I'm assuming that the installer has already installed it's prerequisites.
Has anyone else ever encountered anything like this? I know that there is not very much information to go on, but since we've never seen this happen in house, I'm not too sure what questions to even ask them.
The installer is written using V9 R2 of installaware, and they have reported the problem on XP, Vista and windows 7.
