MySQL 5 / MariaDB

Hi

I'm trying to use the My SQL Script feature, but it seems to fail with MySQL 5 and MariaDB. The text at the top says "Execute a SQL script on a My SQL database through version 5". It might just be a language barrier, as here in the UK we don't really use the term 'through' but I'm lead to believe that includes version 5, rather than anything before 5.

Should it work or is MySQL 5 not supported?

Notes:
- The script is fine, if I point it at one of our old MySQL 4 databases it works as I'd expect (the syntax also works manually in MySQL5 / MariaDB).
- There are a few other threads when I searched the forums, but nobody specified the MySQL version. However considering one of them was using stored procedures, that user also would have been using MySQL 5.

Thanks
Adam

Dear Adam,

As reported with InstallAware documentation:
"This plug-in provided command executes a SQL script on a My SQL database server. Supported server platforms include versions up to 5."

So it should work and MySQL version 5 should be supported has well.

Honestly, I'm not an expert of MySQL and I never used it with my jobs.
I don't know if exist a relation with this issue due the fact of the use of MariaDB ( ... I don't know if it is an MySQL special version based on MySQL v 5).

Using IA My SQL Server plugin with MySQL v 5 (without MariaDB ... if this is a sort of extension) how it works?

Regards

Thanks Francesco.

Essentially MariaDB is to MySQL what InstallAware is to InstallShield. MySQL employees left because they didn't like the direction it was taking and started MariaDB. It is a complete replacement and has all the same features. The software works the same, exe's are the same names etc.

I will try with a copy of the 'real' MySQL 5.5 tomorrow and report back.

Cheers
Adam

Dear Adam,

Good to know .... it is totally new to me.

I can only say that officially and for what I know, MySQL 5 is supported.
Probably some things are changed with this different release.

Hi Francesco

I have exactly the same problem with MySQL 5.5, so looks like a generic problem.

It's what I expected, as they're pretty much identical :).

Is it anything the dev team can look in to? At the moment I'm writing out to an SQL file then deleting it after running it, so it's just a bit untidy.

Cheers
Adam

Dear Adam,

If you can send me a very sample project that replicates your issue (with a brief description of how it should work instead), I will try to verify it with dev deam.

As officially reported with IA documentation, only up to version 5 is supported.
Actually, I can't say if will be possible to have a workaraound or else and how long this will take.

I am very sorry but actually I can't do much more.

Regards

Adam, many thanks for the heads-up on MariaDB. I downloaded it last night and played around a little with HeidiSQL as well. It all looks half-decent. :)

Hi Francesco

I've attached a project. I've just run it with MySQL 5.0 and 5.1 and it seems to work, but it doesn't work with 5.3 so it must have broken then. Hopefully it will just be a small change.

If your development team are unable to resolve it, it would be great if the documentation was clear cut with the version number it supports up to (5.x), as it was one of our the main reasons for buying InstallAware (we had 5 or 6 specific requirements).

Bokkie - no worries, I think it's great after using it. I was skeptical at first, but we haven't had to change any of our programs for it. It's literally replaced MySQL without any extra effort.

Thanks
Adam

Hi Francesco

I've just updated to NX and can see that MySQL 5.5 is a runtime, but the MySQL plugin still cannot connect to it. Is there any update on that?

Kind Regards
Adam

Hi Francesco

How did you get on with the sample project test?

Dear Adam,

I'm not a MySQL expert at all and usually I don't use it, but I have tried your sample over a MySQL 5.5 version and works fine.

I have installed the required MySQL rutime version 5.5 using the defaul settings.
With the "MySQL" InstallAware plugin I used "localhost" as server name and it returns "SUCCESS", with the assigned variable.

Regards.
