Resume uninstall after reboot

Hi Support,
To uninstall my product I need to perfrom a reboot
When uninstalling my product I would like to give the user two options. To uninstall now or after he manually reboots.
To uninstall now, I'm using the Reboot and Resume command.
Which command I need to use in order to register the uninstaller to start after next reboot and not now?
Regards,
T.

Dear Tzachk,
unfortunately, it is not possible to postpone a reboot using an InstallAware command.
You can only register the request using the IA Write Registry command, please refer to the link below for more informations.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 46765.aspx
Please note that it is not a good practice to post-pone a reboot, if your setup package requires to be executed again after reboot.
That registry value can be overwritten by another process, if the user for example runs another application just after your setup.

Dear Francesco,
There is a problem with plain registry writing.
Micorost WSLK (client competability with windows 7) and the new sysdev for windows 8, strictly require that a post reboot option shall be available for any installer initiated reboot request.
The requirements outline a specific set of messages needed to occur to let the system know that a post reboot is in place. Just writing to the registry shall not pass competability checks.
In any case, I'm familiar with runonce, please let me know which command I need to add to the registry to make the installer start after reboot.
Regards,
T.

Dear Tzachk,
Very probably due my personal knowledge lack, but what you are reporting about the new Win 8 requirements is totally new to me.
Can you please point me to any available documentation about this limitation?
I have done a search over MSDN and I was not able to reach any useful information.

Dear Francesco,
This is not just for windows 8. The requirement started on Windows 7 (maybe vista as well)
Look at the following
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 49939.aspx in section 5.2 for windows 8
This is for windows 7
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=3859 . download the document and search for restart

Dear Tzachk,
As I thought, I believe you have confused what really "Windows 7 / Win 8 Client Software Logo Program" requires.
The documentation reports;
Your app must never force the user to restart the computer immediately
Restarting the computer should never be the only option at the end of an install or update. Users should have the opportunity to restart later.
This means that REBOOT (if required) should not be the only option but, using an appropriate message, the installation process should give the opportunity to restar later.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT A POST REBOOT OPTION IS STRICKLY REQUIRED BY LOGO PROGRAM
The restart later option is exclusively intended to give the user the possibility to restart later and
it is not intended in any way to proceed forcibly with a post reboot ( ... and indeed, it is in no way required, suggested or recommended).
As I also said with my first reply:
Please note that it is not a good practice to post-pone a reboot, if your setup package requires to be executed again after reboot.
That registry value can be overwritten by another process, if the user for example runs another application just after your setup.
If in your case the setup package requires a RESTART & RESUME to complete the installation, do not exist any different approach to accomplish this and it does not break any window logo rules, because your package installation it is not completed and it can't be completed doing differently.
I hope this clarifies any doubt.
Regards

Hi Francesco,
I completely disagree.
Did you try to create an installer and pass it through Window 7/8 logo certification?
The guidelines are simple:
- At the end of the installation, and if a reboot is required, the user can select to reboot now, or postpone the reboot to later time.
- If the user selected to reboot at a later time, then I need to provide something to continue the installation when he shall manually select to reboot. Currently I can only reboot & resume, I need Resume whenever the user shall reboot.

Dear Tzachk,
Is not my intention to force you to convince yourself, but I really suppose that you have misunderstood the meaning of that window logo rule.
I can only confirm what I said with all my previous reply.
