Add new features / Modifiy

Hello
I have a little bit trouble with the Maintenance and Add new feature.
If I run my first setup in user defined mode (not complete setup) all program files and a mysql database will be installed successfully.
If I run then again the setup the maintenance dialog appears. I choose Modify / Add new feature and select the option "Webserver".

I have some questions about this:

1. Does the "Modify" or Add new feature uninstall all other files and reinstall it again or does it only add the missing feature "Webserver"?
Because after modify my complete MySQL database was missing.
2. After selecting the new feature "Webserver" the wizard starts and runs without the dialogs. But in my dialogs I have some variables which stores paths and other stuff.
And now while running the Modify (Maintenance) wizard these variables are empty. How can I prevent this?

regards
Hans

Dear Hans,

please have a look at the the attached project that demostrates how to use features.

# 1. I suppose your problem is caused because you are not handling each selected feature during Maintenance mode.

# 2. Are you referring to a Dialog that takes user parameters input?
If true and if this is still required during Maintenance mode, you should use that dialog each time you add that feature.

Dear Francesco,

<<<# 1. I suppose your problem is caused because you are not handling each selected feature during Maintenance mode.
hmm, do not understand what you mean. For example my installer has the feater:

Server
--Webserver

First install routine with "user define" settings installs only the feature "server". Then in the second time the Maintenance mode appears
and the user selects "add feature" and selects the "Webserver" What else is to do?

<<<<# 2. Are you referring to a Dialog that takes user parameters input?

Yes, in the dialogs there are several user inputs. But in the maintenace mode there are no Dialogs. The question is, how can I store the
Variables and user input from the first setup? (it is not needed for the feature "Webserver")

Hans

Dear Hans,

did you have any chance to take a look at my sample?

Code: Select all

Get Component Feature B Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Install Files \AppFiles\B.txt to $TARGETDIR$
  end

Get Component Feature C Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Install Files \AppFiles\C.txt to $TARGETDIR$
  end

Get Component Feature D Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Install Files \AppFiles\D.txt to $TARGETDIR$
  end

Get Component Feature A Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Install Files \AppFiles\A.txt to $TARGETDIR$
  end
The above code is executed during install and Maintenance mode as well.
Supposing that feature component A was installed at the first time and during Maintenance mode, also Feature component B has been selected, when the above code will be execute will install Feature A & B components.

You could use Persistent variables, this can be easly enabled by selecting "Remember value when restarting setup" available with "Set Variable" command.
Please refer to IA documentation for more detailed info about.
