Wise installbuilder script conversion issue

We are evaluating IA 15 Studio edition.
Our hope is to be able to convert a large number of legacy Wise Installbuilder 8 scripts.
However, when we convert, and then try to compile the converted script, we are frequently encountering this error:
"IF conditional closed outside of IF conditional scope".
Searching the Help file produces no mention whatsoever of the word "conditional" and no list that we could find of error messages!
So we are assuming that the message means there are mismatched conditional statements such as IF, ELSE, END, etc.
Well we are new to IA but not new to coding ... all the conditionals are perfectly matched and indented. The compiler points to a particular END statement as the culprit, but it is perfectly matched with an earlier IF statement, and all the intervening pairs are perfectly matched too. Your indentation scheme makes that very easy to check.
Is there any other circumstance that can cause such an error message?
