I don't see any way to install prerequisites in the Visual Studio free edition. Are they not supported in this edition? Fairly useless without.

Dear User,
Yes application runtimes are available also with IA free edition and during package installation, it is possible to select (optionally) the package to install.
Regards.

I don't see anywhere in Visual Studio to add these. Is there documentation? I would also like to select dialogs and do silent install. The menu in Visual Studio does not allow me to start InstallAware. I get an error saying that it cannot start outside of Visual Studio. Please advise.

Dear User,
I meant with running the installation package directly once again, you should be able to reinstall those packages with maintenance mode Add/Remove feature.
However, you can't control the project generation and its scripts inclusion, with that InstallAware edition.
Please refer also to the link below where an other user have posted your exact question.

These are not features. They are prerequisites. We can't ask a client to run the installation twice. If the free edition does not support prerequisites just say so!

Dear User,
Probably there was a misunderstood and I did not say to run the installation twice
I only said that InstallAware runtime features, which are installed during IA product installation, are then used as setup package application prerequisites during project compilation by the InstallAware edition you are using.
However, due limitations with InstallAware free edition, it is not possible to manipulate application prerequisites inclusion with project package creation, because this process is automatically handled by the IA product edition.
Finally, it is not true that InstallAware free edition doesn't support prerequisites but instead, prerequisites manipulation it is not allowed with InstallAware free edition.
Regards.

I have no idea of what you are trying to say. I would like to add prerequisites for .net 4.5 and SQL 2012 Express Localdb to my installation. Can I do that with the free edition in Visual Studio 2012? Yes or No? If yes, how?

Dear User,
I will try for the last time to explain the same concept.
If you create a VS project, based on your project settings, InstallAware free edition automatically adds the prerequisites required.
SQL 2012 express Localdb currently is not part of InstallAware redistributable prerequisites.
Hope this finally clarifies the matter.
Regards.
