Hi,

I chosen REPAIR out of (REPAIR/UNISTALL) on maintenance screen. And i am getting an error while REPAIR in progress.
ERROR: Could not access network location \$TITLE$\

Note : Title is your product name

and This error is coming on following line of script:
Apply Install (get result into variable SUCCESS)

This generally happens when one of the paths used by your installation script commands, such as Install Files, is ending up with a partially formed path - thus the MSI service is unable to properly resolve the path. This could happen only on a repair run because of errors in your script, and not expose on a first time install. But the problem is most probably in your script and can be fixed by verifying all runtime paths, even during a repair process, are well formed - easy to fix using the debugger.

thanks for reply.

As you explained issue might be with Install Files path.
I found the issue with the same. when installation in the Repair mode.
the system variable $APPDATADIRALL$ is not setting properly.

As i noticed Value of ($APPDATADIRALL$) variable
In Installation Mode : "C:\ProgramData"
In Repair Mode : "" Blank

I am not sure How to set that variable in the Repair mode. since it was system variable.

I also tried to set this variable like this:
Get Common Folder Location System->Application Data Directory into APPDATADIRALL

Can you please tell me how can i get this done.

Regards,
Mukesh Naval

This isn't really a system variable actually - its instead a variable that is defined in your script using the Get Folder Location command.

You can make the variable a persistent variable by first initializing it using Set Variable to any value - this will persist the value across runs.

Or, you can just make sure the place you define it currently also executes during maintenance mode.

I am surprised this is not already the case, where/how are you currently defining this variable?

I have this same issue. From what I can tell this is not working during a re-install on Windows 7. Is this a known issue?

Get Common Folder Location System->Application Data Directory into PROGRAMDATA

Please advise.

Kris,

I haven't been able to reproduce this with a simple installer I tried to test this with.
  • What version of InstallAware are you using?
  • Could you clarify what you mean by "re-install"?
  • Could you provide some lengthier code snippets to indicate what you think the cause of the problem is?
(Ideally, you could create a simple installer that demonstrates the issue).
  • It would also help if you could include a log for the setup that produces the error.
Follows is the description of my trial:

:Steps:
Create new basic setup

Place at beginning of MSI code:

Code: Select all

Set Variable programData to
Get Common Folder Location Other->Local Application Data into programData
Add a file to install (into $programData$)
(used Design file interface)

Build project.

Run setup.exe; install program.

Run setup.exe again, choose repair.

:Result:
No error.

:Note:
Also tried commenting out:

Code: Select all

Set Variable programData to
Also tried recompiling (change revision code).
Install (uninstall previous version, install new)

Could not reproduce error.

I worked around this with this code, I am going to try to remove it with InstallAware 9 R2 and see if it is fixed.

if Variable PROGRAMDATA Equals
Set Variable PROGRAMDATA to
Get Common Folder Location System->Application Data Directory into PROGRAMDATA2
Set Persistent Variable PROGRAMDATA to $PROGRAMDATA2$
end
