How to Stop Uninstall from Running?

Hi,

So if I do the following:

1) Build and deployed a web setup and then installed onto a number of PCs.
2) Rebuild the installer files and upload on to web server.
3) When a user reruns the setup program InstallAware wants to uninstall first, see attached.

How do I stop this and simply install over the top?

Second question, if the program is running it still seems to uninstall without a reboot - why?

Thanks for your help.

Dennis.

Hi,

This is part of
the installation script (old version removal). The reasons for the old
version removal are non-trivial, they cannot be worked around in Windows
Installer unless a patch is being applied; but the native engine is far more
forgiving and will not suffer from this limitation.

The removal of the previous version before installing the new one is a part of the setup script (inserted by the template you used).

You can turn on the native engine by setting the variable NATIVE_ENGINE to TRUE).

That may help - how do I do that?

Also, as part of the uninstall runs a post uninstall script - can this be stopped?

What kind of program are you running?

Which post uninstall script are your referring to?

I'm usung InstallAware 12.

The post uninstall script is actually a VB.NET prpogram that does some database work after the uninstall is completed. So when they dust do a reinstall I do not want this program to run.

THe uninstall VB.NET prpogram does some database work on a backed SQL database after the uninstall is completed.

So when they user reinstalled, I do not want to run this program - this is why I asked if I can stop this selectively.

Are you able to check in your script if the script has already ran?

Yes, but I want to stop it from running not check if it has BEEN run. If it runs, then it's too late.

The easiest way would be to stop it form running within the script if it already ran - is that an option?

I understand what you are saying but I DO NOT WANT to run it that it its never been run on a reinstall.

You can, in your MSIcode, check if MAINTENANCE is TRUE - if it is, that means that the setup has already been installed.
