Minimum Supported OS Check on IA NX

Hello,

I need to block my installer on all operating systems before Windows 7, meaning I only want to run the installer on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

If a use the Application Requirements to target Windows 7 ( as this is supposed to be a minimum check) my installer fails in Windows Server 2008. If I set the minimum check to be Windows Server 2008, then the installer fails in Windows 7.

I ended up using Get Exact OS and checking for all OS's from 95 - Windows 2003 and setting a variable WRONG_OS to TRUE if I detected any of these and terminating the installation if WRONG_OS is TRUE.

Is there a better way to do this? Why is the Windows 7 system check blocking the Windows Server 2008?

Thanks,

Sheri

Dear Sheri,

this is not an error.

You found this behaviour because WIN 2008 indentifier (WIN32_WINNT macros declared with WIN SDK) is not greater than the one used to identify Win 7.

For examples these constants are defined as follow with WIN SDK heders:

#define _WIN32_WINNT_NT4 0x0400
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WIN2K 0x0500
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WINXP 0x0501
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WS03 0x0502
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WIN6 0x0600
#define _WIN32_WINNT_VISTA 0x0600
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WS08 0x0600
#define _WIN32_WINNT_LONGHORN 0x0600
#define _WIN32_WINNT_WIN7 0x0601

For more informations please refer to "Using the Windows Headers (Windows)" with MSDN documentation.

Hope this helps you.

Regards

Francesco,

Of course... as a programmer I should have realized that!
