Post by anchal.chitlangia »

Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ TEST \ TEMP. System error 161. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Please let us know, if any workaround available

Hi,

I have a 32 bit Application, Installation of this application is targeted for both 32 & 64 bit Operating Systems.

Application Installer package is modifying/ adding Registry keys – since our Application is 32-bit, so we are re-directing, all registry entry to 32-bit registry location (Wow6432Node for 64 bit OS)

Installation of this application over Windows Server 2008 SP1 & SP2 failed, and below error is occurring.

Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ TEST \ TEMP. System error 161. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Code sequence
Get System Setting Windows in 64 bit Mode into SYSTEM64BIT
if Variable SYSTEM64BIT Equals TRUE
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TEST\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TEST\TEMP\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TEST\TEMP\ODBC\, C
End

Options tried
Registry permission reset using SubAcl – same issue
Machine off the DOMAIN – same issue
Reset all group policies on the machine – same issue
Run as administrator- same issue

Environment details
Operating system – Windows Server 2008 SP1 / SP2
User Account - With Administrator privilege

Thanks in adavnce

Well, only the last of those write registry calls should be necessary, but...

I can't reproduce this on a virtualized Windows Server 2008 SP2. User is Administrator.

Did you reduce your project just to only those lines of code?

Does the key/folder for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TEST\ appear in registry after running?

Can you reproduce this with the project I created (attached)?
