If you are installing merge modules (MSM
databases) and/or Windows Installer packages (MSI databases)
with an InstallAware installation, chances are those
databases already contain compressed data streams with the
files they are installing. While InstallAware's
superior compression outperforms every other algorithm, unfortunately
pre-compressed data cannot be recompressed.
The Setup Decompressor tool helps you out
of this situation. It will guide you step-by-step through
an analysis of the streams contained inside setup databases,
and optionaly extract, decompress, and reinject cabinet data.
This way the setup databases will have been repacked without
any compression, opening the way for InstallAware
to work its stellar compression rates. Of course, the process
does no harm to the setup databases themselves and completely
preserves structural integrity.
