Reinstall

Postby Joc02 » Tue Jun 24, 2014 5:44 am

Hello,

I deploy a software, who's in perpetual improvement, and I create a version all month. My clients can need all the updates or pass from version X.5 to X.7. I would like to find the better way for do that. Now I generate a new single file, and for update my software on my client computer's, Installaware uninstall for reinstall the version.

Thank for your help.

Dear User,

Honestly, if you want to continue to use the Windows Installer to distribute your product, I suggest you to continue to deploy your updates as you are currently doing. The other possible option is to deploy Patches, but I discourage this approach in your case ... due the numbers of version that you distribute and considering patch model limitations (You should keep the same product version number and they should be used to emit minimal updates only).

Alternatively, you may consider to use InstallAware NATIVE ENGINE as alternative to Windows Installer engine. The native engine complements Microsoft's Windows Installer setup engine and provides faster execution speeds and greater flexibility at runtime.

Using NATIVE ENGINE you have much more control on the installation process and you can even overcome the Windows Installer requirement, that wants the product uninstalled before to proceed with a new installation.

For more details about NATIVE ENGINE, please consult the IA documentation.

Hope this helps you.
