Access Denied error during build

Postby Roostar2004 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 9:11 am

We have been getting an error during the build process. We are all administrators on the machine in which installaware is installed on.

When building after the prepared SFX data we get an access denied error on "Cannot Open File "C\\Program Files\\Installaware 9\\{8610C7DF-8310-49C0-8099-658BC461437}". Access Denied"

Once we get the error we can then build again with out issue while we maintain the same session.

Were you ever able to find a solution to this?

Try excluding IA from antivirus scanner, I had this problem and it was MS Security Essentials causing this...

I installed IA X2 to give it a test ride and suddenly this error started to occur with our project.
I tried also with a new dummy project built from the builtin template and the same result.
Then I searched through the forum and found this topic and the advice to look for Antivirus settings.

When the real-time scanning of F-Secure was paused the problem disappeared. Fine. I Decided
to add IA installation folder to the exclusion list. That solves the problem. Kind of.

There is still a security risk involved: IA installer grants full permissions to "Authenticated Users" to
the IA installation folder for some reason or another. I find it very unsafe to exclude a folder from
virus scanning where normal user accounts have write access. Why in the first place IA uses it's
installation folder for temporary storage ?

Dear Paavo,

I cannot tell you why ... but for sure that folder location it's not used to store any temporary file.
