Web Media Blocks Missing Files

Postby MaudDib » Tue Jun 23, 2015 4:33 am

Dear Support

I'm having some trouble with Web Media Blocks that don't seem to be including all the files that I asked it to.

Before I continue, here's some background as to what I'm attempting to do. I've created a project, which has two features that effectively are presented to the user as a choice between two versions of our company's software on a custom dialog. On the Design tab and under the Setup Architecture->Files tree node, I've added two folders under the $PROGRAMFILES$ node which pointing to the target location of all the files I want included per feature, which I can confirm has all the files I want at that location. I noted that my two features had created Web Media Blocks and that I had set the download URL correctly. I then build the project and noted the two Web Media Blocks output files, the .7zip files. I deployed the files to the download link location and continued to test the installation through the use of a virtual machine. After the Web Media Blocks successfully downloaded the setup continues to install/deploy the files but it started to complain that some files where missing. I'm not sure it is relevant but he missing files all seem to be types of the following extensions: .ico, .config, .pdf and .rtf. After completing the installation I proceeded to check the Web Media Blocks (.7zip) files to ensure that they contained the missing files. Sadly, I discovered that they did not. Knowing that I had built and rebuilt the project a number of times, I physically deleted the files from local machine and proceeded to build the project again. However, once again, the .7zip files did not contain the missing files. Now, I found this strange as the location for the files to include in the Web Media Blocks does contain all the files I require.

And so I wonder if there is some way in which these files are being excluded, perhaps via some setting that I'm not aware of? Or maybe, I'm not setting up the Web Media Blocks/Files correctly?

I would appreciate any suggestions as I have exhausted all my knowledge at this point and really do need this to work. Also, I happy to provide any more info but just do not know what else I am able to say at this point.

Best regards.

Dear MaudDib,

honestly it's not quite clear to me which is the effective source of your problem and even not quite sure about the way you used to verify the issue.

For what concerns WEB MEDIA BLOCKS, their use is quite simple.
The Web Media Block command indicates that each installation command which installs files on the target system should place those files in the named source media block. Multiple media blocks may be defined and re-defined in any order. Each media block is effective until a subsequent media block is encountered.

Btw if you want to test the Web Media Blocks, just place all of them within a same local folder along the executable. The setup at Runtime first tries to use those available under the executable path.

Finally, if you have any chance to send me a project (very very minimal - as compressed archive) that replicate the issue*, I'll try to have a look at it.
*Don't forget to include any single file used by the project... otherwise I'll be not able to build it.

Hi Francesco

Thank you for your support and I apologize for the lack of clarity.

After I posted my original query, I setup a new project to see if it also excluded files when building the web media block feature, but it did not and in so doing I have solved the problem. However, it is not a good thing that I experienced it in the first place as I've had to duplicate time and effort. As there is no difference between the projects that I setup. It is not giving any clues as to why building the original project would exclude files for the Web Media Block for my features.

Anyway, as I have managed to solve this problem by creating an entirely new project, I think we can consider the issue closed.

Kind Regards
