X3 hangs when loading a large number of files

I am trying to add 4,304 files (total 42.5MB) to an install project. When I try to add all the files at once, X3 just hangs (I let it run for 15m). I had to kill the process to start over. I can add files in smaller batches, but after I get to some point (about 1/2 way I think) I cannot add any more. Is there a limit to the number of files that can be added to a single folder? I cannot use *.* as there are some files that need to be excluded. How should I proceed?

Dear Munderhill,

you may do so by specifying exclude wildcards with the "install files" command. Doing this you can use "*.*" with the "Source Files" command parameter, along with your "exclude wildcards sequence" in the relative command parameter (see the IA documentation for more details about the command parameters).

Anyway I Always use with each project a dedicated folder or more then one if the case (...this depends by the project), where the files to install are available.
In this way those effectively used are present and better managed from the install project.

This does not help as I cannot create a set of directories with ONLY the files that are needed for the install. Please suggest a way to add the files to my project separately. If this is not possible then I would consider this to be a major bug in your software and needs developer attention.

Dear Munderhill,

as I said previously, you can easily handle the problem via IA script.
The "install files" command allows to use WILDCARD with the files to include and/or those to exclude ("exclude wildcards sequence").
In addition If you need, you may use a sequence of several "install files" commands in order to split "the files" in smaller blocks.

Please have a look at "Install Files" command in the IA documentation.
