Web Media Data Left in Program Data

Postby Ohmylord » Mon Jan 09, 2017 5:56 pm

We have an install the uses about 10 Web Media Blocks to download and install a large library (about 8GB total). When the installation is finished the Program Data folder still has a folder with a subfolder for each of the Web Media Blocks, and what appears to be all the image library files unzipped. I assume the .7zip files get downloaded to that folder and extracted but I would assume they would deleted after they were installed.

Shouldn't the unzipped Web Media Blocks get deleted from Program Data after they are installed?

Dear Ohmylord,

Compressed Web-Based EXE build type does cache its setup sources by default. However, this should be exclusively limited to the "OFFLINE" contents that get extracted from the respective web media block (generally stored under ProgramData folder) and without leaving any copy of the downloaded Web Media Block.

Downloaded WMBs are deleted immediately after that their content is extracted ... and for what I see, it works in this way (just checked using IA X5).

Francesco, thanks for the response. To follow up. The 7zip files are being deleted after they are extracted. However, the unzipped data is still in the Program Data folder. So, if a user installs 5 GB of multiple Web Media data (multiple web media blocks) they they end up with 2 copies, one in our installation folder, and the other in Program Data.

We use "Install Files" for each web media block which in essence copies the unzipped data to our install location. Everything installs fine I just hate to leave that much extra data on their computer.

We could try deleting the folder {xxxxx-xxxxxxx-.....} but we aren't sure if that folder holds data for the uninstall.

Dear Ohmylord,

what you are reporting is in-fact the correct behavior.

You may change this optionally and this behavior is controlled by the "Always Cache Setup Sources" option in the Build Settings.

"This three-state check-box lets you control setup source caching. When the box is filled, the default source caching option (as described above for each build type) is in effect. When cleared, setup sources are never cached. When checked, setup sources are always cached."

However;
When setup sources are not cached, no disk space is wasted on the target system for a copy of the installation files. However, running setup in maintenance mode (other than uninstalling the application) will require access to original setup sources."

This may be the problem. I was going to the Project Settings dialog and un-checking the Cache option option. However as you can see from the attached screen shot under Build Settings in the tree control it is checked. I had unchecked the box, closed the dialog and re-opened before took the screen shot. I also noticed that if i saved and closed the program it was checked when I re-opened.

Dear Ohmylord,

select your "Cache" option from the "Build Settings" page (Design View -> Deployment -> Build Settings).
Then save your project.
