A bit frustrated...

Postby SteveDude » Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:49 pm

Not sure what's up with these last couple of major builds, but at least in 17 and now 18 I'm still getting random Insufficient memory errors when I have the compression set to the highest level. The only way I am getting consistent builds is knocking down the compression a notch. I know others have had these problems and sure hope it can get nailed some time soon.

...also getting this error quite often...

Error during build: Unable to set MSI summary stream code page

That usually happens when I just open a project and hit build. If I hit build again, it works fine.

Note: Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with 8 GB RAM with about 100 GB's free with most of my setups are around 50MB or less. Doing Single EXE installs.

Dear Steve,

honestly, I have also experienced some very sporadic "Insufficient memory errors" when building using IA 18.
I repeat, I found this very rarely and with restarting the IDE, it doesn't occur anymore and the project compiles correctly,

Regarding the other problem with "Unable to set MSI summary stream code page", I never experianced a similar issue and I don't think it has any relation with the other one. It seems rather a problem caused by a file alteration ... any Anti Virus that may interfere?

Thanks, I'll check the anti-virus stuff out, but I'm guessing that may not be it as I just changed anti-virus programs recently, but still may be worth a check. Seems to be a hit and miss on the memory thing, but the MSI one is fairly consistent. Each time I have run into it though there have been some files referenced by the setup that were changed. None of these problems existed in v15. The MSI one just takes a second hit on the build button.

Dear Steve,

... I had direct experience of the most bizarre errors caused by Anti Viruses.

I am wondering if there has been a solution to this build issue? I recently upgraded to IA 18 as well and am consistently seeing the "Unable to set MSI summary stream code page" error. Similar to Steve, often hitting build again works, but as we do automated builds of our installers I don't want to upgrade those machines until we figure this issue out.

So I was able to build without seeing the "Unable to set MSI summary stream code page" error when I turned off my anti virus. Are there any suggestions around anti virus settings or configuration in order to avoid this issue without completely turning off anti virus?

Thanks

Dear Hkeller,

I can only say what I have personally done.
I threw away the AV from my development machine because tired of the Visual Studio false positives and currently, I exclusively use the free "Microsoft Security Essentials".

Unfortunately AVs have become increasingly intrusive and often it's not enough to just disable them.

Hope this helps you.
