<dramatic entrance>And so the final entry can be written...</dramatic entrance>

I've adapted the script to and added the "Control Service" commands grouped in the "first time/maintaince region" as was done in Peter's script. Tried a test run and it removes the services on uninstall and adds them on install. That about covers my scenario :)

I did forget all about "Setup Commands Preceding Apply Uninstall", so I read up on it again. I didn't find a direct link between "Control Service" and that particular topic.
Must I assume that "Control Service" is one of the elusive "New Windows Installer Commands"? Or did I overlook something?

It might be handy to have to complete list of "New Windows Installers commands" instead of a "reference to some commands".
You could consider this as improvement for the help.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll be on my merry way :D

The two best indicators on what must appear before Apply Install are:

  • The commands appear in the pinkish color.
  • The list of command on the right of the screen that you can drag-drop under the Windows Installer heading

If you forget what color means what, you can always view the Options under the MSIcode tab to remind yourself.

Since I think this might be the easiest way to prevent this confusion, I have logged the following feature request:

The help doc for each Windows Installer Command should include the text:

"This command must be placed before an Apply Install command in order to be executed.
