Hello,
I use InstallAware 18 and one small thing I've noticed is that Windows 8.1 is not listed in the Windows NT Kernel capability in the Get System Setting command. This seems to have the consequence that in the startmenu dialog, the option "Only for me" is selected by default when it should be "Anyone" instead. There could be other things too that I haven't discovered yet.
Is there a way to change the Windows NT Kernel capability to include Windows 8.1 (and Windows 2012 R2)?

Re: Get System Settings Windows 8.1 Capability
Dear Marcusi,
you can use "Get OS or SP Level" in place of the Get System Setting command.
The command already supports;
Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update 1
Windows 8.1 with Update 1
Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows 8.1
Please check you are using the latest IA 18 version (18.08).
Hope this helps you.

Re: Get System Settings Windows 8.1 Capability
I dont think it helps me because I need a boolean value in return to save in the variable ISNT (which is used in the startmenu dialog). Of course one could rewrite everything and check for each OS version individually with Get OS command, but it would be alot easier if it was possible to make the Windows NT Kernel capability work.
When I click the Version button in InstallAware studio I see version InstallAware 18 (Build 7.1.14), but I downloaded and installed it just a couple of weeks ago. Does it show the wrong version inside the program or is your download link not giving me the latest version?

Dear Marcusi,
you are referring to the build number (the one reported in the IA IDE), the product version can be verified under Add Remove Program (Control Panel).
Anyway by the build number you posted (7.1.14), it seems you installed correctly the latest IA version (18.08).
For what concerns your question, which dialog theme are you using for your dialogs?

Okay, in Add Remove programs I have version 18.08.
I use the Official theme for dialogs.

Re: Get System Settings Windows 8.1 Capability
Okay, thanks. We have opted for another solution now though and have skipped the startmenu dialog altogether.
Re: Get System Settings Windows 8.1 Capability
hi, if I wanted to check for Win 8.1 using this, would it also cover Win 8.1 with Update 1?

Dear Tofutim,
I believe that will not detect the installed Win 8.1 update ... this because these updated are distributed as cumulative set of security updates, critical updates and updates (KB2919355). In fact once installed, nothing it's reported with the system version in control panel.
