UAC, admin or not

Postby lorrymoller » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:29 am

Hi Alex - Nuno and I are working together on this issue.

Our goal is to install patches on Vista without the pop-up, regardless of whether they are admin or not. We realize that admin rights will be necessary for the initial install to Program Files, but our understanding is that digitally signed patches to that original install can be applied by non-admins, without the popup. We have a test with another product that implies this.

From the MS URL in Nuno's original post:
"User Account Control (UAC) patching enables the authors of Windows Installer installations to identify digitally-signed patches that can be applied in the future by non-administrator users."

Does IA, either 6 or 7, do this? We have a lot invested in the GUI installer already for IA and would prefer to continue with IA, but this is key for us.

Thx!
Lorry

any response to this question? (Non admin upgrades possible)

We are faced with the same situation. Currently we use Innosetup to produce signed setups and upgrade setups. We need to have our application upgrade itself (from the web) on both XP and Vista preferably without requiring non-admin users having to have admin passwords.

Is this possible with IA?

Thanks Richard

UAC, admin or not - interested in this too.

I am interested in this as well, and wondered if digitally-signed patched meant that it had to be Authenticode Code Signed.
