IIS 7 on Vista

Postby skjpatel » Sat Feb 23, 2008 9:44 am

I just purchased IA7 (Jan 2008) - I note that some of the posts with respect to IIS 7 go back over a year - I also cannot get a virtual folder to be installed on Vista. Can we please have a definitive answer on this PLEASE. I went with you guys over InstallShield because of my aversion to their percieved arrogance - lets hope you are not going the same way.

If it can't be done - then it can't be done - just tell it to us straight, saying something is coming soon and not delivering is one quick way to loose customers - I am in the software business like so many other users on this forum so please treat us with a little bit of respect.

So far I have been a pretty satisfied customer who is now a little irrate because of a wee bit of poor customer service.

Yeah - I agree - IA are highly disappointing and unprofessional!!! If they'd at least say sorry we cant figure it out instead of just not reacting..

Anyway, here's what I had to do to get past this problem

On vista:
Run Program $WINSYSDIR$\\inetsrv\\APPCMD.exe add app /site.name:"Default Web Site" /path:/$VDIRNAME$ /physicalPath:"$TARGETDIR$\\DLCL" (WAIT)

--or

~InstallAware Clipboard Data~
~Run Program~
~{3D9654E0-4DB0-4C27-8D83-978633ACBB16}~
~$WINSYSDIR$\\inetsrv\\APPCMD.exe~
~TRUE~
~add app /site.name:"Default Web Site" /path:/$VDIRNAME$ /physicalPath:"$TARGETDIR$\\DLCL"~
~TRUE~
~~

It's not perfect as you need the NAME of the site you are installing to in advance.

when reading the posts above, I was really doubting what they said was true.
See what IA website says:
Enhanced! IIS Support
InstallAware makes it easy to start, stop, and install IIS websites. Set up virtual folders and application servers. Configure permissions, logging, default pages, and MIME types. Support for IIS 7 is now included.

Then I did a quick test, run the "Creating IIS Websites and Virtual Folders Example" on II7 + Vista.

Wow, nothing was created on II7.

interesting.

We are thinking about shipping to IA from Wise, which does support IIS7+Vista.
Now we have to think it over....

I may point out for future readers of this post that InstallAware 7.9 includes native support for IIS7.
