Hi there
I've been trawling these forums for most of the morning looking for ways around my problem but I've had no joy.
I'm an application packager trying to package a piece of software received from a vendor. It is an InstallAware controlled MSI.
I neeed to stop the creation of desktop shortcuts by this package. I also need to capture the software activation to avoid users having to do it. This is normally no problem, create an MST and away we go. Not so with this package.
I can't work out for the life of me how to do this with InstallAware. Some posts seem to think it isn't possible, other say it might be depending on how the application was packaged. Is there anything I can do to achieve what I need to?
Many thanks
MSI Customisation

Re: MSI Customisation
If have not missed anything ....
Of course depends on how the MSI permits or not this.
If the MSI provided by your vendor, do not have the possibility to customize its execution, passing variables ... will be quite impossible.

Re: MSI Customisation
Unfortunately I had to resort to a batchfile to delete the desktop shortcut which the transform would have dealt with. But I'm having major problems deploying this installer using SCCM and the System account. The first step is to remove the previous version, which only partially uninstalls the product. The log file suggests that it all ran OK. It does display the following message which I can get around by creating the folder, but it's a good indication that there are some deep seated issues:
"C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Desktop refers to a location that is not available. blah blah blah."
I've pushed all the values I can find that reference user folders to the installer with no joy. It's worth mentioning that it works flawlessly when run as the locally logged on administrator account. Just not using the service account.
Any ideas? I'm running out of hair!
