Scheduling Auto Updates

Postby MikeS » Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:10 pm

Hi. Just getting started with IA and figuring everything out (slowly).
1) I'm attaching a pdf of the Automatic Update screen that displays on the client's machine which shows the options text being cut off in the display so the user is unable to read the full text. How do I fix this?
2) I don't see the Updater running as a Process so how does the end user launch the Scheduler to make any changes to day/time and updating options?
Thanks.

Dear MikeS,

#1 You can easily fix this:

a- load your project in IA, switch to "MSI Code" view (select the "MSI Code" tab from IA top ribbon).
b- locate the Dialogs node under the left tree view pane and double click the "update_setup_schedule" dialog, in order to open it with the IA Dialog Editor.
c- Once the IA Dialog Editor is displayed, select the Label Control which displays the incomplete text and proceed to modify the Label control properties as follow;

NOTE!
First set the "WordWrap" property as TRUE and then set the "Width" value. I used 338 px value ... but you can change it as you like.

d- Once completed save your dialog changes and rebuild your project.

Anyway, I'll log a note to our dev team in order to have this fixed in future.

#2 This depends on how you have defined the Web Update Mode in your Project Property.

I may suggest you to search for "Web Updates" in IA documentation for details on how the process works (Press F1 in IA IDE).

Thanks Francesco for your reply. However,

#1. I cannot modify the Dialog. I have the Developer version and I don't think that has the capability to modify Dialogs. Can you fix this?

#2. Thanks for the information on Web Updates. My deployment is a single-file so the user is not given a "setup.exe" file. Maybe I can include the "setup.exe" within the single-file package and then follow the instructions for creating a shortcut in the Start Menu for the user to run the setup.exe with the /updatesetup parameter to modify the schedule. That should work, right?

Thanks again. Please let me know how to get/download a fix for the Dialog in #1.

Mike

Dear Mike,

#1 ... contact me at; support@installaware.com

#2 If you select "Manual update checking" in your Project Property ... IA will create automatically the Start Menu shortcut. No additional work is required.
